Ange Postecoglou spoke to the country's broadcast journalists today ahead of Celtic's game tomorrow against Ross County.

The manager spoke about injury trouble for Kyogo Furuhashi, suggested Albian Ajeti may start as tomorrow's striker and gave an update on the availability of the deadline day signings.

Happiness at signing deadline day trio

"With all three, we'd been working on them for a while. All three were keen to get on board and they have the attributes I'm looking for in terms of the football I want to play and the stages of their careers (they are at). They have a point to prove in their careers and that's a big part of wanting to bring players here. We were working on a number of fronts but one of the things I kept pushing was that I really wanted guys who wanted to be here for the opportunity to play for Celtic and what it does to their careers, rather than just people seeking a move. I'm happy to have the three in along with Liam Scales."

It's clear to see although Celtic are yet to appoint a head of recruitment, Ange Postecoglou is in the thick of the process of identifying who he wants at the club. In terms of points to prove, Giorgios Giakoumakis has to show he's not a one-season wonder, Jota needs to show he can fulfil the promise shown in his glittering youth, while Cameron Carter-Vickers will probably leave parent club Spurs at the end of next season. It sounds like Postecoglou is challenging them to go and do it.

Update on Kyogo's injury

"Kyogo picked up an injury with the national team, the initial assessment is 3-4 weeks so he'll miss the next few games, but he's optimistic about working hard to get back so we'll wait and see. It's disappointing for him because he's had a great start to his Celtic career and wanted to keep it going. We understand this is football and these things happen and we need to get on with it. McCarthy trained well this week and is available, James Forrest probably won't be for tomorrow, he's training but we'll give him a few more days. McCarthy is ready to go and Forrest isn't far away."

Not ideal for Celtic with their new superstar being out until the next international break. Anxious thoughts occurred for fans when he went off injured while playing for Japan, but clarity is good. It's not a season-ender or something that will keep him out until Christmas, it's an inconvenience especially ahead of the Europa League, but manageable. He'll miss seven games if the estimated timeframe is correct. On the plus side for Celtic, James McCarthy may get his first start tomorrow playing behind Callum McGregor and David Turnbull.

Albian Ajeti likely to start

"Giorgios [Giakoumakis] is a little bit further behind than the other newer lads as he didn't really do a pre-season with VVV-Venlo, so we'll be a bit more conservative with him because with Kyogo going down we're light in there. Liam [Scales] is fine and Carter-Vickers played in pre-season so he's in good condition, same with Jota who played a few friendly games. I've said before, I don't go around giving players cuddles but I do give players opportunities when they come. It's up to them, especially Albian, he's worked his socks off in training and I know if the opportunity comes tomorrow then he's done everything he can to be in a position to take it. It's up to him. If he goes in and starts banging goals in then he makes it difficult for others to take his position."

With Kyogo injured and Giakoumakis probably not fit enough to start, Albian Ajeti is the prime candidate to play through the middle. He was blistering for Celtic at the start of last season, scoring five in six games before he began to toil like the rest of the team. Postecoglou sounds ready to give him an opportunity and depending on how quickly Giakoumakis gets up to speed, this could make or break his Celtic career.

Deadline day departures

"There are no disappointments. I said all along those are decisions for the players, they know what's best for them and their careers. I didn't try to influence them; if they'd stayed great but they chose a different path and we wish them all the best for their next phase. This club goes on and nothing changes, we move on to try and build something with the ones who are here now."

Despite the talent of Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie, Postecoglou clearly hasn't wanted uncertain players in his squad. It's also fairly certain he holds no grudges with the highest-profile pair who fancied a crack in a different league and environment. It sounds like Postecoglou won't lose any sleep over them, though.
