Detailed player ratings from Celtic's 5-2 win over Falkirk in the Scottish League Cup...

Kasper Schmeichel - Could do nothing about either goal conceded in the first half, though his positioning for the second may be a tad questionable. One or two good saves and moments of good distribution, but a largely quiet afternoon for the Denmark captain against his former side. 6

Anthony Ralston - Alistair Johnston doesn’t need to worry about his position being under threat. The Scotland international is a level below his Canada counterpart, though his effort can never be called into question. Lasted the full 90 minutes, but was largely ineffective in proceedings. Not a starter in future. 5

Auston Trusty - Apart from one slack pass, the new defender hardly put a foot wrong in this one, with his distribution playing out from the back just as effective. A solid full debut for the American, who looks like he could slot right in from now on. Impressive from Trusty. 6

Stephen Welsh - Did not do anything drastically bad, but was clearly a downgrade in performance levels compared to the likes of Scales or Carter-Vickers. Was replaced by the lesser-spotted Nawrocki late on in the game, as Celtic looked to get more goals on the opposite end of the pitch.

Alex Valle - Had an unfortunate hand in both goals, as the argument could be made that he was fouled in the lead-up to their concession. A tough debut for the on-loan Barcelona left-back, who had some nice touches to go along with the assist for Bernardo’s leveller. Was hooked at the hour mark for Greg Taylor - who instantly lifted the tempo following his introduction. 5

Callum McGregor - Not his best opening 45, as the captain was slack in possession - not helped by Falkirk’s fast start to proceedings. Improved in the second half, but a day to largely forget for the skipper, in all honesty. Will be happy that his fellow teammates stepped up to the mark when it mattered. 5

Paulo Bernardo - Got Celtic back into the game with a lovely volley after Falkirk took a shock lead. Some nice touches in the first half, he was the best player on the park in the opening 45 minutes. Celtic’s best starter - admittedly not difficult - the Portugal U21 stalwart should have added another few goals to his tally in the second half. Solid as usual from a steady customer. 8

Reo Hatate - A tired performance, Hatate tried his hardest but looked leggy in the game - perhaps due to the shift he put in versus Slovan Bratislava. Made way for Arne Engels, who made a marked difference in the time he was on the pitch. Not Hatate’s best day at the office. 5

James Forrest - A very wasteful opening half for the Celtic legend, who gave the ball away inexplicably a couple of times when his side looked to be on the attack. Not a good showing from Forrest, who was replaced by the star man Kuhn at the hour mark. He has had - and will have - better days than this. 4

Adam Idah - A frustrating opening half for the big man, who made run after run without getting the service required to hurt Falkirk. A couple of nice touches here and there, but the Chanpionship side dealt with him well. This would change following the restart, as substitute Kuhn would deliver two balls to the Irishman for the striker to finish. Both solid conversions, he will be happy with his three goals in the space of 4 days. Big impact. 8

Luis Palma - Largely ineffective, the Honduran international was handed a big opportunity to impress in place of Daizen Maeda. Despite endeavouring hard, he did the opposite, as he was wasteful on the ball on a number of occasions. Was hooked in place of Yang on the hour mark. 4

Subs:

Yang Hyun-jun - Although the South Korean winger was overshadowed by fellow sub Kuhn, he can be proud of his efforts on the day. Should have scored with his good strike shortly before Celtic levelled things up, and was unlucky that his shot went just over the bar late on. A good outing from a player who has struggled to make an impact this season due to game time. 6

Arne Engels - Though the Belgian's introduction was the loudest concerning fan response, he would be overshadowed by the person he assisted for the final 30 minutes. Still, this was a solid showing for the record-signing, who showed exactly why Celtic paid £11 million for his signature. A perfectly weighted ball to Kuhn was lapped up by the star man on the day, which meant that Engels picked up another goal contribution to his growing collection. He won't be on the bench again for a long time, you would imagine. 7

Greg Taylor - Though his influence was understated, the Scotland international brought a calmness to the game that was not there with Valle. Positive, forward-thinking and a safe pair of hands, the left-back underlined his importance to the team, despite not directly contributing to the tally by means of a goal or assist. 6

Nicolas Kuhn - You know someone has had a good game when they get awarded with the Player of the Match award despite playing just 30 minutes of football. With two goals and two assists from the German winger in just a third of the game, it was a tour de force of wing play that simply wasn't there from the likes of Forrest and especially Palma. Two brilliant finishes came after he expertly picked out Idah on two occasions, it was a perfect performance from Celtic's best wide-man thus far this campaign. Like Engels, he will not see the bench often this season - and for good reason. A stunning showing. 10

Maik Nawrocki - His first appearance since Ayr United back in July, it was good to see the Poland defender back on the pitch again. Nothing of note from Nawrocki, but a welcomed sight all the same. 1
