Celtic slumped to back-to-back Scottish Premiership defeats as the champions were rocked 2-0 by Hearts at Parkhead.

First-half goals by Lawrence Shankland and Stephen Kingsley were enough to hand the capital club all three points in Glasgow for the first time since 2007.

The loss forced Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to issue an apology to the home supporters who vented their ire and spleen by booing the team off the park and indulging in chants of 'sack the board' and 'Lawwell get to f***' which at times turned the atmosphere inside the stadium toxic.

Rodgers said: "Firstly, it's an apology to the support base. I don't think I've ever had to do that in all my time here, the first time or this time. Certainly, the performance today was nowhere near the level of what is expected of a Celtic player and a Celtic team. It felt like we could have played all night and not scored."

The champions still top the table by five points from Philippe Clement's Rangers who could go to the summit if they win their two games in hand.
