Burns is best known for his long and successful association with Celtic as a player, manager and coach. He pulled on the green & white hoops between 1971 and 89 before spending five years as a player & manager with Killie.
He helped guide the club to promotion in the 1992/93 season after a ten-year absence during the 80s, before helping Killie to survive the threat of relegation.
Burns then moved back to Celtic as their manager, replacing Lou Macari.
He was also assistant manager of Scotland from 2002 to 2007, and famously struck up a close relationship with Walter Smith and Ally McCoist.
Burns sadly died of melanoma aged just 51.
