A Celtic move for Liam Kelly has been ruled out by a report after claims the goalkeeper was a target for Brendan Rodgers.

The Motherwell stopper is out of contract at the end of the season and a report claimed Kelly was being targeted by Celtic for a summer transfer.

However, the Scottish Sun claim Celtic won't pursue a move for Kelly. 

The former Rangers goalkeeper - who is widely expected to make the Scotland squad for the Euros - is said to be likely to return to England in the summer.

Joe Hart will leave Celtic in the summer as he retires from professional football, but Scott Bain and Benji Siegrist will remain under contract.

It's unclear whether either of the backup stoppers will move on for more game time in the summer with previous suggestions Siegrist was keen to find first-team football.

Motherwell boss Kettlewell has also revealed he was unaware of any reported interest but admitted it'd be no surprise to see interest in the goalkeeper.

Quizzed on the reported Celtic interest, Motherwell manager Kettlewell said: “You’ve possibly got more information than I have. That’s certainly not something that I’ve spoken to Liam about and I try to speak to him on a daily basis.

“I’ve trusted Liam and you look at his performances and the numbers he bashes out every season.

“You look at his ability and all these different things, his leadership has to go in there. How good a goalkeeper he is, not just with his feet but with his hands as well.

“I think he’s top drawer.

“What wouldn’t surprise me is a goalkeeper of his stature and standing attracting interest.

“But again, Liam is somebody that I would like to keep at the football club. I would like to retain him but there’s a number of factors that come into that.

“It could obviously be a big summer for him as well (if he makes Scotland’s Euro 2024 squad), and we need to see how that goes, but certainly interest from other clubs isn’t something that’s been on the agenda with us.”
