John Beaton's decision on VAR duty during Celtic's 2-0 loss to Hearts earlier this month caught plenty of attention.

The official was the aim of Brendan Rodgers' tirade post-match, as he blasted both Don Robertson and Beaton as 'incompetent' following the game.

These comments this week landed the Northern Irishman a two-game ban, with one of those suspended, meaning he can be in the dugout against Rangers after sitting out at Livingston.

However, a BBC radio host has claimed that Beaton got 'full marks' from the Scottish FA for his performance in the game.

While previewing the match on Off the Ball, he revealed he'd been informed that Beaton was applauded by his peer for his decision-making on VAR.

The main controversy came when Yang was sent off for a high boot challenge on Alex Cochrane, following a VAR check. VAR also advised an on-field review for a Hearts penalty away a Tomoki Iwata handball. 

Asked about how VAR and the inconsistency of its implementation was affecting the Scottish game, MacIntyre said: "Unfortunately it is affecting some big calls.

"For example, in the game you are talking about, at Tynecastle, the one that Brendan Rodgers was hauled in front of the disciplinary board for, I am told that the VAR that day got full marks for his decisions.

"I've been told by a senior match official for example that the penalty award that Hearts got was just ridiculous.

"The two incidents at Fir Park [Motherwell vs Aberdeen] the same match official told me that the Lennon Miller goal should have stood and he couldn't understand why the referee came over."

Meanwhile, Celtic's statement conveying their disappointment that Rodgers had been served with a Scottish FA ban gave Kris Boyd a 'good laugh' this midweek.

The Rangers hero insists the champions are kidding themselves on - branding the SFA's decision to suspend one of the matches as part of the two-game ban as 'weak'.
