John Beaton's involvement on VAR duty during Celtic's defeat to Hearts on Sunday caused quite a stir.

Despite some hefty criticism being levelled in his direction by Hoops manager Brendan Rodgers, the official will be back in action this weekend.

Beaton will be on the pitch this time though, with the Scottish FA appointing him to Aberdeen's Scottish Cup quarter-final tie with Kilmarnock.

The game will take place on Saturday lunchtime, with a 12.15pm kick-off live on BBC One.

It will come less than a week after VAR controversy dominated the headlines in the wake of Celtic's 2-0 loss at Tynecastle.

Rodgers blasted Beaton and on-field official Don Robertson for their 'incompetence' over the decisions to send Yang off for a high boot on Alex Cochrane, as well as penalising Tomoki Iwata for a handball inside the box.

The Irishman's comments could land him in hot water, with the SFA's compliance officer deciding whether to cite him or not. If he is pulled before the disciplinary panel, then he could face at least a two-game ban.

But despite his protestations, Beaton will take charge of Aberdeen vs Killie on Saturday.

Willie Collum will be in charge of Celtic's game against Livingston on Sunday, with Nick Walsh and Sean Carr in the VAR room.

Steven McLean will referee Rangers' away tie at Easter Road later that day, with Steven Kirkland and Daniel MacFarlane operating VAR.

And David Dickinson will oversee the only match of the round without VAR as Championship side Morton take on Hearts on Monday night.

Meanwhile, the treatment by Celtic fans towards Liel Abada left the winger with no choice but to leave the club.
