Chris Sutton aimed a dig at the officials in Scotland after Celtic's loss to Hearts this afternoon.

The former Hoops striker insists neither Yang's red card nor the penalty awarded to Hearts for a Tomoki Iwata handball should've been awarded.

But after the controversial decisions by on-field referee Don Robertson and VAR John Beaton, the pundit states 'Can't say it's a surprise in Scotland'.

The ex-Blackburn and Chelsea frontman wrote on X: "Funny old title race over the weekend. Well done to Hearts.

"Yang red card I really don’t like but understand why it was given.

"Iwata handball is so harsh but would have been awarded because of the position of his arm but he was nudged but can’t say it’s a surprise in Scotland…"

Jorge Grant stepped up from 12 yards for the aforementioned penalty. He put the hosts 1-0 in front before half time, as Hearts took full advantage of playing against 10 men.

Lawrence Shankland thought he'd doubled his side's lead with his 27th goal of the season deep into stoppage time in the first half, but his strike was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.

The Scotland international would get in on the act though, as the prolific forward scored with a textbook first-time finish to slot beyond Joe Hart before the hour-mark.

Steven Naismith's side got back to winning ways with the result after a 5-0 loss to Rangers last weekend and a 1-1 draw in the Edinburgh derby on Wednesday night.

Celtic missed a golden chance to leapfrog arch-Glasgow rivals Rangers today. 

If they'd secured all three points in Gorgie then the champions would've gone a point ahead of Rangers in the Premiership title race. Philippe Clement's side lost 2-1 at home to Motherwell yesterday.
