Celtic hero Neil Lennon has praised Joe Hart, insisting the goalkeeper "doesn't get a lot of credit".

The 36-year-old made several crucial stops as the Hoops defeated St Mirren 2-0 in the Scottish Cup.

And Lennon had nothing but good things to say about the former England international.

Speaking to ViaPlay, he said: "Joe Hart has been brilliant, certainly since we came back after the break. Aberdeen, big saves at Hibs and that was another tremendous save at a really crucial time.

"He’s really looking after the team at the minute with his experience and his class. You can see him cajoling the centre-halves and talking to his fullbacks even at the set play towards the end, he really organises his defence and he’s really shown as experience.

"He doesn’t get a lot of credit because he doesn’t really have a lot to do at times. He’s really stood up in the last three or four games and shown his qualities."

Meanwhile, Brendan Rodgers reckons some people have been trying to gang up on Celtic recently.

he Scottish champions have come under some hefty criticism recently after their inactivity in the January transfer market, and stumbling to a 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

But Rodgers is having none of it. He said: "The narrative around our team is that we’re not together and we’re broken but you can’t come and win very comfortably like that if you’re not. When you’re a winning club with a winning mentality … I think they’re trying to gang up on us now!

"When you are successful and this club has been for a long period it doesn’t take much for people to want to bring you down.

"It’s about keeping that calmness. We haven’t been consistently playing to that level but we’ll get there and once the pitches get a bit better as well.

"We managed the game well in the second half. It was always going to be a tricky game.

"St Mirren are in really good form. The guys did really well and I’m pleased for them. They’re giving us absolutely everything.

“It’s such a tricky tie with the form St Mirren have been in. They’ve had good wins and are high in confidence and have players back from the Asia Cup so it was a big test but we stood up to it defensively.

"We had moments in the first half but just needed to find one or two better ways to play through the block. We could have scored more in the second half.”
