Unlucky Scotland star Kieran Tierney is facing another spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring tear playing for Real Sociedad.

The on loan Arsenal defender missed almost two months of the La Liga season earlier this term after a hamstring injury in October.

And his injury jinx struck again after he had to go off in this week's Copa del Rey quarter final win at Celta Vigo, when he limped off six minutes before half time.

Real Sociedad manager Imanol Alguacil revealed they are now waiting to assess his scan results to see the extent of the damage.

He said: "We're going to wait for the relevant tests, but it's clear with Kieran that it's a rupture in the hamstring.

"It's a shame, because we have left back Aihen Munoz out too and it's important to double up in positions because of the amount of games we're going to have to play.

"But I've never made excuses and I'm not going to start now."

The news will make Scotland boss Steve Clarke sweat with key man Tierney a huge part of his Euro 2024 plans.

And the 26-year-old former Celtic star has had more than his fair share of injury setbacks in his career Last season, he was ruled out for the campaign in March with a knee injury that required surgery.

He also had a shoulder injury that sidelined for three months in 2020, groin surgery in 2019 and a torn ankle injury that kept him out for three months at Celtic in 2017.

Earlier this month, Tierney made it clear he had no intention of cutting his loan spell short and returning to the Emirates. He said: "Several people have already asked me if I was going to return to Arsenal now and the answer is no. I'm going to stay here for sure.

"As for staying here longer, the decision is not mine. But the only thing I can say is that I love playing for Real. And I'm enjoying it very much."
