Celtic re-established their eight point lead at the top of the Premiership table as they crushed Aberdeen 6 -0 at Parkhead.

Brendan Rodgers side were ruthless and relentless as the Reds were on the receiving end of a green-and-white backlash.

It was Yang Huyn-Jun who celebrated his first start in a Celtic jersey by opening his account for the champions when he headed home Luis Palma's cross from the left with aplomb after just nine minutes.

Seven minutes later and the goalscorer turned provider after a superb three-man move had Celtic two to the good. Yang exquistely released Matt O'Riley with a slide rule pass and the Danish international centred for Kyogo Furihashi who did the rest as he sidefooted number 61 in his Celtic career in his 101st game.

It was all one-way traffic in Glasgow's east end and Dons goalkeeper Kelle Roos saved Aberdeen from further damage in the opening 45 minutes and the only real surprise was that it was 2-0 to the hosts at the interval.

There was an early blow for the hosts in the second half when Kyogo left the field after a nasty collision of heads with Dons defender Slobodan Rubezic with the Celtic fans screaming for a red card.

Honduran winger Luis Palma then made the points safe when he slammed the third goal into the net from the penalty spot with 14 minutes left on the clock to put a more emphatic gloss on the scoreline.

Second half substitute David Turnbull completed the pummelling with a cracking 22-yard daisy cutter which went in via the post in stoppage time as he notched his sixth goal of the season.

There was still time for Palma to land a sumptuous cross on the head of substitute Oh Hyeon-Gyu who planted a header home from close range to make it five and then the striker burst clean through to slam in number six.

It was no more than Rodgers' men deserved as they had dominated the contest from start to finish.

Yang opens his Celtic account with a bang

The 21-year-old Korean got off the mark with his first goal for Celtic but it was a dazzling display all round by the winger. Yang certainly made the most of his opportunity as he came into the side to replace the injured Daizen Maeda. He jinked and danced his way down the right flank as he teased and tormented the Reds defence. He eased any nerves that the champions may have had after their traumatic evening in Madrid last Tuesday night and it was Yang who was on hand to despatch a fine header to finally open his Celtic account following Palma's cross after just nine minutes. He was then involved in the second that put his team on easy street on 16 minutes when he slipped a superb slide rule pass into O'Riley whose low accurate centre was converted by Kyogo. Yang made it all look so simple and he is showing increasing signs that he is finally settled into life in Scotland and beginning to enjoy his football. Last season's Korean player of the year was always positive and he was full of energy and confidence as he drove at the Aberdeen defence and showcased his talent, much to the delight of the home fans.

Odin Holm impresses at home

Following a couple of encouraging cameo displays against St Mirren and Ross County, the Norwegian midfielder was handed his first start at home since his summer arrival from Valerenga. With some players, you can sense their aura and ability with the way they move around the pitch, both on and off the ball. Admittedly, the first half was the Palma, Yang and Matt O’Riley show, though Holm showed flashes of his undoubted quality when the ball came his way. Following great play by Palma on the wing, he distributed the ball to Holm, whose shot was saved by Kelle Roos in the Aberdeen goal. Prior to that, he embarked on a mazy run, with former Celtic player Jonny Hayes picking up a yellow thanks to his tackle on the talented midfielder, who was running into space. There were perhaps a couple of moments where Holm’s positions were imperfect thanks to the volume of defenders in his way, though this is something that the player will learn from as he makes his way into the starting line-up in the coming months and years. He was substituted early on in the second half for Turnbull, after not really impacting proceedings following the restart. Plenty for him to work on, but the signs look promising.

Kyogo Furuhashi's incredible tally

The mini-goal drought is over. The Japanese talisman is back in among the goals. Kyogo made it 2-0 with his trademark near post run and one-touch finish after some superb build-up play involving Yang and O'Riley. The strike made it eight in 21 games this season. Incredibly it was Kyogo's 61st goal in 101 games for Celtic. Those are quite simply amazing stats. The 28-year-old also spurned other opportunities to add to his tally in an action-packed first half. He really has been a revelation in the goalscoring department. However, the attacker was involved in a sickening clash of heads on 49 minutes with Dons defender Rubezic with the home fans baying for a red card. Referee Willie Collum deemed that a yellow card sufficed but it brought a sad and premature ending to Kyogo's game as he was replaced by Oh Hyeon-gyu. Thankfully the attacker was taken off as a precaution and walked off the pitch gingerly and rubbing his head but he was not replaced due to concussion. How Celtic are going to miss their star striker badly when he is absent on Asian Cup duty in January.

Perfection from Palma

Celtic now have a penalty kick taker! All jokes aside, Palma stamped his authority all over this game, which is becoming the norm now domestically. Nicky Devlin in the Aberdeen defence will have nightmares over the international break from defending the Honduran, especially during the opening 45 minutes. His movement and drive down the left hand side was a joy to behold, which resulted in another assist as he picked out Yang in the box. Certainly not afraid to take a speculative effort, he would get his well-deserved goal in the second half from the penalty spot, an area that has plagued Celtic all season. After getting a goal and an assist last time out domestically against Ross County at Dingwall, he went two better by setting up Turnbull for his customary long-range strike to make it 4-0. Palma is quickly becoming Celtic’s go-to man for goal contributions and has to be right up there for the signing of the season so far. Another masterclass in attacking play from a player who is going from strength to strength at his new club. His assist for Oh’s first goal to make it five on the day was a thing of beauty, from a player that plays beautiful football for Rodgers’ Celtic.

Nine-in-a-row for Celtic...against Aberdeen

For the statisticians among you Celtic chalked up another milestone with this latest victory against Barry Robson's men. It was their ninth win in a row against the men from the Granite City. That is something that the club has not achieved since Gordon Strachan's days as manager. It is certainly a fine record against a team who pride themselves in being the third force in Scottish football and usually pose some menace to Glasgow's big two. You have to go back 23 matches for Aberdeen's last triumph against Celtic - a 1-0 win at Parkhead - back in May 2018 when Rodgers was in his first stint as manager. Celtic also made it 50 games undefeated at Celtic Park and are three off Martin O'Neill's side who embarked on a 53 match unbeaten run at home until it was ended ironically enough by... Aberdeen.
