Oh Hyeon-Gyu was the Celtic hero as he bagged his first goal of the season as the champions sealed a crucial three Premiership points with a last gasp 2-1 win over St Mirren.

The men in green and white had to do it the hard as they came from behind when Conor McMenamin had headed the visitors into the lead after just seven minutes to stun Celtic Park.

However the hosts were level within 11 minutes when David Turnbull smashed home his fourth goal of the season with a stunning 20-yard strike.

The Scotland midfielder then spurned a wonderful opportunity to go in front just before the half hour mark when Turnbull slammed a penalty against the post. It was the second spot-kick that Brendan Rodgers men had missed in succession after Reo Hatate had also fluffed his lines from 12 yards in the recent 4-1 win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

Celtic huffed and puffed but it was Oh who came to the rescue and won all three points for Rodgers men when Kyogo Furuhashi combined with fellow substitute Odin Thiago Holm and he took a superb first touch before crashing an unstoppable shot high into the net for the winner with just seven minutes left on the clock.

Circus at Celtic Park

A lot of the focus before the game - understandably so - was the ongoing and very public fall out between the club and the Green Brigade ultras. Regardless of your thoughts and feelings towards the group, you cannot deny the atmosphere that the group bring to proceedings on a match day, particularly at home. Their noise, accompanied by the Bhoys’ ultras group in the corner opposite to them, is key to getting the crowd going, especially on cold midweek games such as tonight. Unfortunately, both groups were not present for the game, as the Bhoys stood in solidarity with their opposite ultras by walking out after unfurling a banner in support of them. This is a situation that is moving at a quick pace, but it is a dispute that must be rectified soon, as it is a sideshow to proceedings happening on the pitch. It contributed to a nervy night in the stands, with sections of the crowd trying to get songs and chants going, albeit with not much success. This nervousness will feed its way onto the pitch, too, so it should be a priority for all sides to make sure this stalemate doesn’t continue for too much longer. This circus cannot continue, especially at Celtic Park.

Technical Turnbull a saint and spot-kick sinner

David Turnbull possesses some wonderful technique and he is undoubtedly a talented footballer. It was mixed bag of a first half for the ex-Motherwell man who was given a rare nod to start. He made his eighth appearance of the season and it was his first start since Celtic beat Dundee 3-0 at Parkhead back in September. Ironically that day the midfielder scored from the spot but he was unable to repeat that feat when he spurned a glorious chance to put Celtic 2-1 ahead when he stroked the ball off the post from 12 yards on 29 minutes. Conor McMenamin had given the visitors a shock seventh minute lead but it was Turnbull who cracked home a beauty on 18 minutes from 20 yards into the top corner after being teed up Matt O'Riley. The 24-year-old showed superb technique as he crashed a cracker high into the net for his fourth goal of the season. It was also a wee reminder to Rodgers that he can still kick it for Celtic. He was finally replaced by Oh Hyeon-Gyu after 74 minutes. The Scotland midfielder's contract is up at the end of the season and it remains to be seen if the club will enter into talks over a new deal. If Turnbull can continue to produce top drawer strikes like that one then it might just be enough to see him put pen to paper once again for the champions.

Penalty problems plaguing Celtic

The men in green and white have not had their problems to seek with regards to penalties ever since Australian midfielder Aaron Mooy retired at the end of last season. Celtic's woes from 12 yards continued as Rodgers side missed their second spot-kick of the season. This time the culprit was Turnbull as he fluffed his lines as he coolly and calmly sent the St Mirren goalkeeper the wrong way but watched in horror as his effort came back off the base of the post. Celtic have been awarded five penalties this season but only have a 60 per cent conversion rate. That will worry Rodgers moving forward especially as the last two penalty kicks opportunities against Hearts and St Mirren have gone a begging. Japanese midfielder Reo Hatate missed from 12 yards at Tynecastle during the recent 4-1 Premiership victory and that miss did not cost them dearly in the end. It might well be a case of going back to the drawing board for Rodgers and the Celtic players and having a good old fashioned penalty kick competition to determine who at the club is the best striker of a ball from the penalty spot moving forward. Celtic simply cannot continue to look such gift horses in the mouth.

Thiago-esque from Holm

A lot of eyebrows were raised when Celtic signed a Norwegian with the name ‘Thiago’, who is Holm’s childhood idol. The Liverpool midfielder would have been proud of the 20-year-old , who played such a key role in Oh’s late winner on the night. Kyogo passed the ball to the young player, who played a sensational pass straight into the South Korean’s path. Oozing quality on the ball, with a bit of bite off of it, Holm looks like one hell of a talent for Rodgers to nurture. not afraid to get stuck in, he won his side a foul right at the death to stop St Mirren from advancing. With Hatate out injured and nobody really posing a definitive answer to the replacement question, why not Holm? Just back from injury and contributing to proceedings on a very big way, he’s going to be a major player for Celtic going forward. Early days, but Rodgers should opt to play him at Dingwall on Saturday, as his contributions tonight merit that.

Oh to the rescue for Celtic

It was the Korean international's eighth goal for Celtic and he has not scored a more important one to date. What a finish he produced for his first strike of the season as the supersub blasted the ball into the net emphatically to give Celtic a vital 2-1 lead and hand Rodgers side a crucial three Scottish Premiership points. It's the goal that Oh has desperately craved in green and white and hopefully this can kickstart his career. The attacker was desperate to make an impact when he came on and he finished off a superb three man move involving Kyogo and fellow substitute Odin Thiago Holm. It was a quality finish when he was under severe pressure but he kept a cool head to smash home after taking a sublime first touch to set himself up for an effort on goal. Oh, Oh, Oh, he's magic you know...
