Ally McCoist reckons "massive trouble" lies ahead for Rangers Women assistant Craig McPherson after he appeared to headbutt Celtic boss Fran Alonso.
Television broadcast footage showed McPherson approaching Alonso from behind and appearing to aim a butt at the back of his head at the end of Monday’s SWPL derby at Broadwood, which ended 1-1.
McPherson has subsequently been charged by the Scottish FA for “allegedly breaching” its disciplinary rule 77.
Reacting to the incident on the TalkSport breakfast show on Thursday, host Alan Brazil commented: "What is going on up there? With the wee nod of the head, have a bit of that; Glasgow kiss."
Rangers legend McCoist then responded: "Shocking. He has just lost the head. He has just lost it."
Brazil added: "He's in trouble. Headbutting the Celtic coach, though. I mean, come on."
McCoist responded: "He's in massive, massive trouble."
Former Greenock Morton player McPherson, 52, had spells Airdrie and Falkirk before becoming assistant manager at the Cappielow club and Dumbarton after retiring. He linked up with Rangers Women boss Malky Thomson in summer 2021.
The Scottish FA said: "A recognised football body, club, official, team official, other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall, at all times, act in the best interests of association football.
“Furthermore, such person or body shall not act in any manner which is improper or use any one, or a combination of, violent conduct, serious foul play, threatening, abusive, indecent or insulting words or behaviour."
The maximum punishment available to the governing body is a ban from ‘recognised team and all other football meantime’.
McPherson could face a time-limited ban, with censure ranging from two games to eight matches. His hearing is scheduled for April 13.
Hoops boss Alonso said in a post-match Sky Sports interview that McPherson called him "a little rat". It was the first SWPL game to be shown live on the station.
Rangers had taken the lead at Broadwood thanks to Brogan Hay's goal 10 minutes before half-time but Caitlin Hayes' stoppage-time counter ensured Alonso's side not only remained unbeaten against the defending champions but stayed ahead of them in the table.
Celtic sit second, eight points behind leaders Glasgow City, with Rangers a point further back in third.
