Celtic loanee Liam Shaw has praised captain Callum McGregor for his work ethic in training, calling him "ridiculous".

The midfielder is currently on loan at English League One side Morecambe as he looks to get regular minutes under his belt after not playing much for the Hoops.

Since signing last summer the 21-year-old has only made two competitive appearances for the Scottish champions.

However, he regularly trained with the first-team squad for a long period last season and was keen to get across how good a player the Scotland international is.

When asked during an appearance on The Players Piece podcast who the best player at Celtic is, he said: "The best player at Celtic? I'll give it to either Jota or Callum McGregor.

"In training and stuff, he is ridiculous. He sets the tempo... I don't think I have ever actually seen him give the ball away in training, he's just really good.

"Jota has the flair and stuff, he is also good. When I seen him in training some of the things he would do were unbelievable."

With 17 appearances for Morecambe under his belt this term, Shaw says his immediate focus is on keeping the Shrimps in League One before he turns his attention to his Celtic future.

He said: "[I want to] keep Morecambe up and then go back to Celtic, and whatever will be will be.

"If I'm not part of the plans obviously I will go out on loan again.

"I didn't really play much for six months when I was at Wednesday, then for another six months with Celtic.

"That was a year where I didn't play, and that was one of the toughest parts of my career because I just wanted to play.

"That first six months at Celtic, I gave everything, to be fair. I felt like I trained well but obviously I wasn't doing enough to get in the team.

"I went on loan to Motherwell and even then I was in and out of the Motherwell team."
