Greg Taylor has revealed that Todd Cantwell’s trash talking riled him during Celtic’s meeting with Rangers in the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup final.

But he expressed satisfaction that he and his team mates had concentrated on doing their talking on the park and had recorded a historic triumph as a result. 

Parkhead left back Taylor and Ibrox playmaker Cantwell were involved in a few heated verbal exchanges and robust physical challenges during the closely-contested match at Hampden on Saturday. 

The former Norwich City man was substituted after shoving the ex-Kilmarnock defender off the ball – an offence which earned him a yellow card from referee Nick Walsh – in the second-half when the scoreline was 0-0.

The Scotland defender, who helped Brendan Rodgers’ men to defeat Philippe Clement’s charges 1-0 and complete a league and cup double, confessed that he had been unhappy with some of his opponent’s on-field remarks.

The 26-year-old declined to comment on what had been said to him by a player who Celtic fans have branded “Tik Tok Todd” due to his inflammatory social media posts – but he stressed that he had relished being involved in their personal duel.

And he also admitted helping the cinch Premiership champions, who won after substitute Adam Idah scored in the final minute of regulation time, to win and extend their unbeaten run against the Govan outfit to five games had been sweet.

“I like playing on the edge, definitely,” he said. “He said a few things that I didn’t like. It was a good battle in the game, but it was important to get the win.

“I just didn’t like a couple of the things he said. But that’s fine, we move on. We went on and did the business so it’s important we focus on us and the success we’ve had in winning a cup.”

Alistair Johnston took to Instagram on Saturday night as the Celtic players and coaching staff celebrated their Scottish Cup win at Parkhead to wind up Cantwell.

He asked his fellow full-back Taylor if he was eating a shush burger – a reference to the Rangers man’s bizarre post about the goal he scored in the 3-3 draw with Hearts at Tynecastle in the Premiership the previous Saturday. 

His team mate responded with a series a laughing emojis.

Cantwell incurred the wrath of his own manager Clement following the final whistle on Saturday when he attempted to remonstrate with linesman David Roome - the Belgian approached his player and shoved him out of the way .
