Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers provided a transfer update after the club's League Cup exit to Kilmarnock.

The Scottish champions lost 1-0 at Rugby Park as they departed the competition at the round of 16 for the first time in three years.

And at full-time, the 50-year-old was keen to stress that the squad needed reinforcements.

He said: "We didn’t do enough to win the game. We had a couple of good moments in the first half and some pressure in the second half.

"We’re disappointed with the goal; the goal comes from a throw-in and even though we’re down a man at the time the ball shouldn’t get that far. We need to win our duels and defend it better.

"And then probably on the other side, we didn’t do enough when we had the ball and didn’t show enough quality and enough personality when we had it.

"I thought Yang came on and made a difference for us, he was direct. Haksabanovic came in as well and he looked a threat when he was on the field, but other than that were never had the quality to win the game.

"I think you can see we need that quality; we've had quality go out of the building so we definitely need that quality in.

"The club will work very, very hard to get the players in that can improve us and make us better, and that’s something we’ll do over the period of time between now and the close of the window."

Meanwhile, Hoops captain Callum McGregor admitted the club are at a "crossroads" after their early exit to Killie.

The Scotland international could not hide his disappointment as he reflected on a frustrating afternoon.

"It's hugely disappointing, everybody will feel it, none more so than the players, the manager and the supporters," he said. "Now, we have to stick together – it's a crossroads moment – there is still so much football to be played.

"We have to learn from it and that’s the biggest thing – you can’t let it fester and snowball into two/three/four games, you have to find something within yourself as a player to go again and put this right.

"Like I said, there's a lot of football to be played and we have to get it right so that starts tomorrow."
