Celtic defeated St Mirren 5-1 in Paisley on Sunday to stay nine points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Ange Postecoglou's men came from behind to record another precious league victory. Once again VAR twice had to intervene in as Postecoglou watched his side come off on the wrong end of a handball decision against Greg Taylor.

Referee David Dickinson had initially waved play on but was invited to look at his monitor to review the incident by VAR official Andrew Dallas some three minutes later before he eventually awarded the spot-kick which was scored by Saints skipper Mark O'Hara. It was a call that incensed former Celtic striker Andy Walker in the Sky Sports TV studio.

It was a match that also saw St Mirren defender Charles Dunne sent off after hauling down Hoops striker Kyogo Furuhashi. Initial contact was instigated outside the box but appeared to continue inside as Dickinson initially awarded Celtic a spot-kick of their own.

However, that decision was rescinded to a foul outside the box after VAR and Dallas intervened again but amazingly Dickinson did not review this incident on his monitor. Postecoglou didn't miss the officials when it came to discussing the VAR incidents in his after-match comments.

The Aussie said: "It is what it is, mate. It doesn’t miss anything, VAR. VAR doesn’t miss anything by the looks of it - especially with us."

Celtic Way:

Celtic didn't allow VAR or St Mirren to derail them though as the Hoops rallied to hit the Saints for five with goals from Jota, Alistair Johnston, Liel Abada, Matt O'Riley and a penalty from Oh Hyeon-gyu steering the champions to a comfortable victory. It was Canadian international Johnston's first Celtic career goal.

Celtic now take on Hearts in a double-header as they entertain Robbie Neilson's men in Glasgow's east end on Premiership duty on Wednesday night before travelling along the M8 to Tynecastle on Sunday for a mouth-watering Scottish Cup quarter-final clash in the capital.

The Hoops remain in pole position to retain their crown with 11 matches left in the campaign.
