Managed by Brendan Rodgers, Celtic are the current champions of Scotland, having clinched the Scottish Premiership and the Scottish Cup during the 2023/24 campaign. In doing so, the club secured its 54th league title and 42nd Scottish Cup trophy. 

Founded in the East End of Glasgow on November 7, 1887 by Irish Marist Brother Walfrid, Celtic played its first match on May 28, 1888 – a 5-2 friendly win over city rivals Rangers at Celtic Park, with outside-right player Neilly McCallum having scored Celtic's first-ever goal.

Nicknamed the Hoops and the Bhoys, Celtic first played in an all-white top before switching to green and white vertical stripes in 1889. This remained the case for 14 years, before the club switched to its now signature home kit colours and hooped design. During its 137-year history, Celtic has won a total of 116 major trophies, including 41 Scottish Cups, 21 Scottish League Cups, the aforementioned 53 League Titles, and one European Cup; the latter of which saw the Glasgow club overcome Italian Serie A side Inter Milan 2-1 in Lisbon on May 25, 1967.

Since the club's inception, there have been 18 Celtic managers – from Willie Maley, who led the team for a staggering 43 years, to the legendary Jock Stein, ex-players Billy McNeill, Davie Hay, Tommy Burns and Neil Lennon; Ange Postecoglou, and current boss Brendan Rodgers to name but some of its most iconic leaders.

Who is the Celtic manager?

The Celtic manager is Brendan Rodgers, who joined the club for a second time in the summer of 2023. Having previously managed Celtic between 2016 and 2019, the Irishman led the club to its renowned 'Invincibles Treble' during the 2016/17 season, when Celtic secured all three domestic trophies in an unbeaten (and unprecedented) run that lasted 69 domestic matches. During this spell, Brendan Rodgers went on to win two League Titles, two Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups.

Upon his return, Brendan Rodgers won a traditional league and cup double, securing the club's 54th league title and its 42nd Scottish Cup in the process. 

Who are the Celtic coaches?

The Celtic assistant manager is John Kennedy, who was appointed as Brendan Rodgers' number two upon the Irishman's return in the summer of 2023. Before this, John Kennedy was assistant to ex-manager Ange Postecoglou, and first-team coach to Ronnie Deila and Brendan Rodgers during his first spell at the club.

John Kennedy's career as a player was cut short due to injury, but, after coming through the ranks at Celtic, the central defender made 44 appearances for the Hoops, scoring one goal along the way. Celtic also have two first-team coaches in Gavin Strachan and Adam Sadler, while Stevie Woods is the club's goalkeeping coach.

Celtic stadium

Celtic plays its home games at Celtic Park, a 60,411-seater capacity stadium and the biggest football arena in Scotland. First opened in 1892, Celtic Park has undergone a number of facelifts over the years – the most significant of which came during the 1994/95 season, when the existing stadium was demolished and rebuilt.

In 2014, the Celtic Way was built as a thoroughfare that runs from London Road to the doors of the front entrance of the stadium itself. In 2015, the club was granted permission to install rail seating in the ground's north-east corner, which is where the club's most prominent fan group, the Green Brigade, are situated in the stadium.
