Celtic have been linked with a move for Gangwon FC winger Yang Hyun-Jun, according to various reports in his homeland.

The 21-year-old, who can operate on both sides of the wing as well as leading the line-up front, has been reported to be interesting the club, who reappointed Brendan Rodgers as its manager this week.

Yang plays for Gangwon, who are currently second-bottom in the K1 League in 11th place. He has made 19 appearances for the side this season, scoring and assisting just one goal, respectively, in what has been a poor season for Gangwon so far.

However, Gangwon’s director Kim Tae-joo does not want Yang to leave this summer. He told local news outlet N Sports (quoted in the Daily Record) that: "It is true that Celtic has received a scouting offer for Yang Hyun-Jun."

"No, we will not transfer Yang Hyun-Jun this summer. I want to allow Celtic transfer to help the player develop. The transfer fee is not a big problem. However, the priority is to consider the current team situation.

"We also conveyed the position that we would release Yang Hyun-jun to the Celtic for six months and then send him to the winter, but Celtic is sticking to the position of wanting to recruit Yang Hyun-Jun this summer. The player also revealed to the club that he wanted to go to Europe."

Celtic already have a plethora of wingers on their books, such as Jota, Liel Abada, Daizen Maeda, Sead Haksabanovic and James Forrest, with Yang potentially set to add to that list.

Elsewhere, Celtic coach Gavin Strachan looks set to stay at the club under Rodgers, following two failed attempts from League One side Shrewsbury Town to appoint him as manager, according to the Daily Record.

Strachan, who joined the club in 2020 under Neil Lennon, had also been linked with a move down south to join Ange Postecoglou’s coaching set-up at Tottenham Hotspur.

However, much like John Kennedy, Stevie Woods and Harry Kewell, Strachan will be staying put under the management of Rodgers.

Shrewsbury are currently managerless following Steve Cotterill’s resignation earlier this month. The side were hoping that Strachan would join them in England’s third tier ahead of next season.
