Ross County boss Malky Mackay has lavished praise on Celtic captain Callum McGregor for his performance against Spain.

The Hoops midfielder played the whole match as Steve Clarke's side ran out 2-0 winners against the former World champions.

Mackay gave the 29-year-old his international debut in a friendly against the Netherlands in 2017 and feels the player has taken his game to another leevel.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I am delighted for Steve Clarke and the players. It is great to see that group of players come through because they are a talented group.

"They have all really flourished and some of them are on 30 plus caps, Callum is on 50.

"(The way he has developed) I think shows the character of the person, there was point that he had difficulty early on in his Celtic career, going out on loan and wondering where his career was going to go.

"I think you have someone who has been able to pick themselves up after blows and injuries and has gotten himself into the team and grown from strength to strength.

"He is a great ambassador for Scotland and Celtic and is a high talent. With five minutes to go the other night he was teasing the Spain players going up the line at the end.

"What we have is a big character and personality playing for Scotland and unfortunately we are playing against him on Sunday."

Meanwhile, former Manchester City, Newcastle and Celtic goalkeeper Shay Given has praised has praised Celtic star Joe Hart, stating his influence is "massive".

The two played together at the current Premier League champions and Irishman reckons the 35-year-old is enjoying himself in Glasgow.

He feels that while Hart may have been shocked at the expectation when he first came to the Parkhead side, he has equipped himself more than well to deal with the challenge.

Speaking to the Daily Record, he said: "I played against Joe a lot and we were team-mates at Man City.

"He was the No.1 but Pep Guardiola eventually didn’t fancy him. It was the same for me when Roberto Mancini didn’t fancy me.

"It happens in football. Joe had to go away and rebuild a little bit. He went to West Ham, had a few moves and things didn’t quite work out.

"But it’s nice to see him really settled in Glasgow, he looks right at home now. Joe obviously has tonnes of ability but he brings that experience and knowledge to the team as well.

"I’ve got no doubt he’s a massive presence in the dressing room."

"There is huge pressure on you to perform and win trophies every year. The place will be unrecognisable from my time there. I was talking to a few of the guys last weekend about the old Jungle!"
