Celtic yesterday announced the signing of South Korean duo Hyeokkyu Kwon and Hyunjun Yang on five-year deals from Busan IPark and Gangwon FC, respectively.

Having both been linked with moves to the club for months, the pair have now put pen to paper on long-term deals with the Scottish champions following the January arrival of fellow countryman Hyeongyu Oh from Suwon Samsung Bluewings.

Defensive midfielder Kwon was delighted with his move to Scotland. Speaking to the club website, he said: “This is a great move for me, to be joining the Scottish champions, and I am looking forward to working with the manager and the players.

“I know that Celtic is already very well-known back home, and I am sure the support will continue to increase now there are three South Korean players, and it will be good to play alongside them.”

Yang was just as pleased with his continental shift to Celtic. He added: “I’m very pleased to come to Celtic and I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and to begin training with them.

“This is a move that I wanted to make and so it is great to be here in Scotland now as a Celtic player.

“I have spoken to Hyeongyu Oh who has already told me great things about the club and its supporters, so I can’t wait to meet them and play in front of them.”

The club are also set to sign their third player this week with the arrival of Poland centre-back Maik Nawrocki from Legia Warsaw. The player was seemingly spotted getting official photographs alongside fellow new recruits Kwon and Yang at Lennoxtown yesterday, so his signing is imminent.

The 22-year-old defender has a history with Brendan Rodgers, having faced his Leicester City team in 2021 during Legia Warsaw's Europa Conference League campaign. Nawrocki would get the better of his future manager, though, as the Polish side defeated the Foxes 1-0, in which he played the full 90 minutes on the right-hand-side of a back three.

He will have certainly made an impression on the returning Rodgers, as it seems that he is close to securing the defender as Celtic's sixth signing this summer.
